Pat Tracy MemorialHistorical route: http://www.tracyskarate.com/PatTracy/index.htm Historical reconstruction: This page is stored locally. Where the original copyrighted page is not available for republication, the text is a locally authored reconstruction. Patricia “Pat” Tracy belongs in the history of Tracy Kenpo not merely as Al Tracy’s wife, but as a martial artist and long-term steward of the system that Al and the Tracy family worked to preserve. This tribute is newly written from surviving Tracy organizational records, rank records, heritage pages and later association material. It does not claim to reproduce an earlier obituary or memorial article. A Martial Artist in Her Own RightPat Tracy appears in the surviving Tracy rank records as Patricia A. Tracy. The official Yodan record lists her promotion to fourth-degree black belt on July 1, 1992 under Al Tracy, and the Godan record lists her fifth-degree promotion on August 30, 1998, again under Al Tracy. The current Tracy Heritage page also places Pat among the third generation of Tracy black belts, identifying her within the line of students who received first-degree black belt rank from Al Tracy or one of the recognized first-generation Tracy black belts during the 1981–1990 period. Al and Pat — A Shared Life in KenpoHistorical photographs and event accounts repeatedly place Al and Pat together at seminars, gatherings and international Kenpo events. A surviving account of the 2007 “Gathering of the Clans” in Ireland records Al Tracy and his wife Pat among the invited Kenpo guests. This matters because the Tracy system was not preserved only in a studio or a manual. It was carried through travel, seminars, friendships, rank records, administration, correspondence and the continuing work of keeping a large martial-arts family connected. Stewardship After Al TracyAfter Al Tracy’s death on October 31, 2017, later Tracy organizational documents identify Pat as a key figure in maintaining continuity. The 2018 Senior Advisory Council bylaws describe Al’s expressed wishes as calling for Pat and Mark Tracy to continue the business and identify Pat as the chief operating officer responsible for business operations at that time. More recent Tracy’s International Kenpo Karate Association material describes the Tracy system as developed and taught by Al and Jim Tracy and later managed by Al and Pat Tracy. TIKKA also states that its continuity structure following the transition was authorized by Pat Tracy. Rank, Authority and ContinuityThe surviving promotion records show Pat acting not only as a ranked practitioner but also as an instructor and authority within the system. Later promotion lists include advanced ranks issued under her name, demonstrating that her role extended into the formal transmission and recognition of Tracy Kenpo practitioners. Pat Tracy’s Place in This Archive
The preservation of a martial art is rarely the work of one person alone. Pat Tracy’s place beside Al—both personally and within the system—forms part of the reason so much Tracy Kenpo material, rank history and organizational continuity remains available today.
