Kenpo Seniority
Seniority can mean first lesson, first promotion, oldest certificate, continuous training, organizational office or technical authority. Those are not the same thing.
Define the question
Before asking who was ‘senior,’ a historian must define the category. A student who began early but stopped training may be chronologically senior to a later student who became a lifelong instructor.
Rank inflation and changing systems
Kenpo rank structures changed over time, and organizations later added higher dan grades that did not exist in the same form during the 1950s. Comparing modern tenth-degree titles to early Shodan certificates without context is historically misleading.
A better approach
This reconstruction prefers dated milestones and teacher-student relationships over claims of absolute seniority. Readers can then judge importance without turning history into a hierarchy contest.

These sources help document the historical reconstruction. Some are lineage-specific accounts and should be read as such.
